This Rwanda tour takes you to Nyungwe Forest, in South West, a huge afro-mountain forest. With over 10,000 sq km, Nyungwe is one the largest rainforests in Central Africa. This natural forest is a renowned habitat for large troops of colobus monkeys, chimpanzees, butterflies and a rich variety of orchids. The forest harbors over 300 bird species.
Visit some cultural sites en route - the Museum in Butare and the palace at Nyanza.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Upon your arrival in Kigali, our company representative will welcome you and transfer you a hotel of your choice. Dinner and overnight at Hotel des Mille Collines /Umubano Hotel /Hotel Gorillas
Day 2: Kigali - Nyungwe Forest National Park
After an early morning breakfast, transfer to Nyungwe forest national park en route visiting the traditional palace of Rwanda's Former King in Nyanza. Drive past green fields of tea scattered on the hillside slopes and the small wooden houses unique to the areas surrounding Nyungwe Forest. This drive may take you approximately 6 hours. Dinner and overnight at ORTPN Gisakura Guest House (FB)
Day 3: Guided nature walk
For birders a guided nature walk in the morning will enable them to spot a variety of bird species in the Nyungwe forest. You will not miss birds such as Rwenzori Turaco and black and white casqued hornbill. Large troops of colobus monkeys will be every time encountered on different forest trails. In the afternoon go chimp tracking. Dinner and overnight at ORTPN Gisakura Guest House (FB)
Day 4: Return to Kigali
After breakfast drive back to Kigali. Along the way, in Butare, visit the Botanical Gardens and a cultural museum. Arrive in Kigali City in time for lunch. After lunch proceed northwards to Kinigi via Ruhengeri. The beautiful scenery of the rolling hills for which Rwanda is well known will make the journey interesting to look at. Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Volcano National Park
After a morning breakfast transfer to Kinigi Park Headquarters for a briefing with the rest of trackers and then immediately commence gorilla trekking in Parc National des Volcans. An encounter with the gorillas is the highlight of a Rwanda safari. Time taken to encounter these gentle apes ranges between 2 to 8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas on that particular day. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Nest Hotel (FB)
Day 6: Parc National des Volcans
In case you paid for gorilla permit supplement, you may go gorilla trekking once again – this time you may track a different gorilla family. Alternatively visit Karisoke Research Centre which Dian Fossey established for the habituation and deeper study about the gorillas. You may choose mountain climbing of the Visoke Volcano. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Nest Hotel (FB)
Day 7: Return to Kigali
After breakfast return to Kigali for a city tour or taking your flight back home.
